A message from the president of SDRTL: Joe Connors

Important Announcement

Dear Supporters of Southern Downriver Right to Life,

It is no secret that the past 12 months have been tough for unborn children and their Right to Life, the very first right that Thomas Jefferson wrote about in our Declaration of Independence.

After 6 months of hard work to obtain 379,418 signatures in our petition drive to ban dismemberment abortions in Michigan, Planned Parenthood is actively challenging the petitions at the Bureau of Elections.  Thanks to your prayers, on June 18th the Board of State Canvassers unanimously directed the Bureau of Elections to review thousands of signatures on sheets that had been previously disallowed as “damaged”.  They also ordered an additional, second sample to be drawn to determine whether we have collected enough valid signatures. Although we lived to fight another day, your prayers are still needed for the ultimate success of the Petition Drive as Planned Parenthood continues its challenges.

An just this past Tuesday, the Supreme Court of the United States in a 5-4 decision struck down a Louisiana Law, requiring abortion facilities to obtain admitting privileges at local hospitals, just like every other ambulatory surgical facility in the state, in order to protect women’s health.  In an opinion which defies logic, Chief justice John Roberts, cast the deciding vote, saying that the law had to be struck down because the court has to follow a precedent, Whole Woman’s Health, (and here is the kicker), a case he said  was wrongly decided in in 2016, and which he voted against!  In other words, it doesn’t matter what the truth is, you have to follow precedent, even if the prior decision was wrong.  Holy cow! A high school debate team knows better than that.

On top, of that our pro-abortion governor decided to keep abortion clinics, which she deemed “life-sustaining”,  open while closing  pro-life facilities which she considered as “non-essential “ during the COVID 19 crisis.   Elections really do have consequences.

That’s why I beg you, not to consider a candidate’s views on Life as just one of many criteria in evaluating political candidates this election, but to view it as the Main Reason to vote for a candidate. That’s because abortion, the killing of unborn children in the womb, is the #1 cause of death in America today (862,300 deaths in 2017); more than deaths from heart disease (647,457), cancer (599,108), or even COVID 19 (112,226 through 7-1-20).  This truly is a national crisis.

And exactly who are the candidates that have been endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan?  Well, I am glad you asked. Go to https://rtl.org/endorsements/ and get your won personalized ballot for the upcoming election. Right to Life is the #1 Social Justice Issue in America in 2020, and it’s time to get back to basics.  This 4th of July, it’s time to restore the very first Right in the Declaration of Independence…. The Right to Life!

4th of July Activities:  The 4th of July parade in Gibraltar has been cancelled due to COVID-19.  However, there is a Car Parade in Wyandotte  at 10:00 AM which our Sister Affiliate, Upper Downriver Right to Life, is participating in (see attached flyer).  Also there will be an hour long prayer service at the abortion clinic at 35000 Ford Rd. in Westland starting at 9:30 AM.

May the good Lord continue to bless you, your families, and America this 4th of July.  Stay safe and enjoy the holiday. Joe
